Caring for...

Icon, the Institute of Conservation has produced a series of guidance aimed at the general public and those new to collections care which covers a wide range of different kinds of object.

Each fact sheet gives an overview of the materials involved, what can go wrong and why, what owners and custodians can do to prevent and alleviate deterioration, and examples of some of the situations in which it is particularly beneficial to ask a conservator for help and advice.

For your own special requirements you may wish to seek further professional advice. Visit the Conservation Register to find conservator-restorers with the specialist skills you require.
