To Work or Not to Work - The Operation of Transport Heritage

National Railway Museum, York
Wednesday 17th March 2010

A special seminar organised by the Association of British Transport & Engineering Museums & Special Subject Network for Inland Transport

The sight and sound of a working vehicle or locomotive is a delight to the public and enthusiast alike and is more interesting than a machine sitting as a static object in a museum or heritage attraction. The operation of working vehicles does bring a whole new set of problems and issues and this seminar aims to provide a forum to debate the question of whether “to work or not to work”?

The seminar will feature a range of speakers from across the spectrum; these include Chris Knapp, (Conservation Manager, Imperial War Museum Duxford, Marta Leskard, (Conservation Manager, Science Museum), Mike Stripe (Vintage Sports Car Club) and Richard Gibbon, (former Head of Engineering at the National Railway Museum). The speakers will offer practical and theoretical insights into the thorny issue of operating heritage transport.

There will also be the opportunity for delegates to debate the issue in an open discussion at the end of the meeting.

For further information and a booking form, please contact Tim Bryan ABTEM Secretary tbryan9@heritage-motor-centre.co.uk
