Pest Management: a practical guide
13th Nov, 2008
The Collections Trust has announced the publication of a new guide to pest management for cultural heritage organisations.
Pest Management: a practical guide was written by leading entomologist David Pinniger. It provides cultural heritage organisations with essential information on identifying and dealing with pest problems, and gives comprehensive guidance on implementing an effective pest management programme.
The book is designed to provide practical, safe and cost-effective advice on how best to protect collections and buildings from pest infestation. It includes specially commissioned photographs to aid the identification of a range of common pests, their larvae, and examples of the damage they can cause. It also features highlighted top tips and legal alerts, alongside insect lifecycle diagrams, example trapping plans and a pest management To Do list.
Alex Dawson, Collections Trust Head of Programmes, commented, “All too often, pest management is a reaction to the discovery of evidence of pest activity, such as damage to objects or elements of the building. This book will help cultural heritage organisations to prevent problems occurring and, in times of restricted budgets, make much more effective use of limited human and cash resources.”
Pest Management: a practical guide is the second in the Collections Trust's series of guides to Collections Management. Further titles will be published over the coming months, including a practical guide to copyright. For further information on the series, please visit www.collectionstrust.org.uk/books
Pest Management: a practical guide is available for retail for £20, or £18 for Collections Trust loyalty card holders. It can be purchased via the online Collections Link shop at http://shop.collectionslink.org.uk or from www.collectionstrust.org.uk/books
