Care for my Special Collection

Collections include just about every type of object and material imaginable and these different materials have different care requirements. Often they can be grouped according to subject, for instance natural history collections will be predominantly comprised of bone, skin and fur, although they can include materials as varied as wood, metal and even arsenic. Sometimes grouping them by material, for instance ceramics, is the easiest way to consider their needs, even though the collection made of this material may be diverse in nature.

The headings below are designed to help you to find advice for your collection, whatever its subject matter and whetever the materials of which it is made. There are resources aimed at everyone from householders interested in caring for their possessions, through to general curators and specialist conservators.

Please note that these pages are under construction. If the section you are looking for hasn't yet been fully completed, please go to the Conserve Objects or Care for my Collection pages or use the search facility, as Collections Link already has a number of collection specific resources on offer. Alternatively please contact the Collections Link advice line on 0845 838 4000.
