Security Resources on Collections Link

Security Resources on Collections Link enables museums and galleries to assess how best to protect themselves against loss from their collections as a result of security threats such as theft, fire, flood, The content has been updated and expanded with the support of Arts Council England and the Association of Chief Police Officers to provide a unique source of practical information and advice. Input has also been received from 350 delegates who attended six security seminars as part of the ACE-funded Building Capacity for Museum Security project.

Assessing the Risk

Three new tools have been developed to help gather information, identify threats, assess risks, find solutions, and monitor the results. The Security Toolkit provides a rationale for museums security auditing based on a four-step management approach. The Environmental Visual Assessment identifies areas of security concern in museums in a structured way. The Security Audit provides a guide to conducting a physical and procedural audit of the measures in place to protect collections. Together they provide a comprehensive and easy-to-use set of tools for museums of any size to raise their awareness of security issues and take action.
